First steps

Yes, there are several newsreader programs across all operating systems.

To set up a newsreader for our service, you need to configure the newsreader using the following data. By connecting to the high speed newsserver, you can usually use the full bandwidth of your internet connection. By connecting to the flatrate server, your download speed will be limited to up to 2.000 kbit/s, but you will not use up any of your highspeed volume.

Highspeed (maximum download speed):

Newsserver: high.usenext.de Port: 119/443 (Port 563 if using SSL encryption) Your username (avi-xxxxxxxxxxx-xxx) Your password

Flatrate (up to 2.000 kbit/s without using highspeed data volume):

Newsserver: flat.usenext.de Port: 119/443 (Port 563 if using SSL encryption) Your username (avi-xxxxxxxxxxx-xxx) Your password

Your username and password have been sent to you after signing up (email with the subject line “Your login data for USENEXT”). In case you deleted the email or lost your login data, you can have them resent by entering the email address you signed up with on our password reset page.

Your membership with USENEXT contains a certain amount of download volume that you can use each month.

Therefore, unused download volume expires after one month.

There are no technical limits to how many times you can log in using your login data – just enter the data in all the newsreader programs you are using across your devices. If you own two computers, you can use your account on both of them, you do not have to sign up for two contracts.

Please note that downloading from the usenet usually maxes out your internet connection, so we do not recommend to have several clients running at once.

Apart from this it is of course not allowed to share your login details with anyone. Please make sure that your username and password are secure and not known to third parties.

Your Extra Boost Account is credited with data volume from special offers. As we do not intend to withdraw freebies, the additional data volume is saved in your Extra Boost Account and will remain at your disposal even at the end of the term of your regular download plan.

Example: you are currently subscribed to a plan providing access to 30 GB of data volume per month. Our support team gave you 10 GB of additional volume in the course of a special offer. Once your account is recharged, you have access to 40 GB of data volume as the 10 GB from your Extra Boost Account carry over to the following month.

If your regular data volume does not suffice until the end of the term, volume from your Extra Boost Account will be used for downloads. In case you made use of 35 GB of volume (30 GB from your regular account and 5 GB from your Extra Boost Account), you will have access to 35 GB the following month as 5 GB will remain in your Extra Boost Account.

For further questions concerning your regular USENEXT plan or in regard to the Extra Boost Account, please don’t hesitate to call or contact us online—we will be glad to help!

There are newsreader apps for mobile devices that you can use to connect to USENEXT.

To configure your app for our service, enter the following data:

Highspeed (maximum download speed):

Newsserver: high.usenext.de Port: 119/443 (Port 563 if using SSL encryption) Your username (avi-xxxxxxxxxxx-xxx) Your password

Newsserver: flat.usenext.de Port: 119/443 (Port 563 if using SSL encryption) Your username (avi-xxxxxxxxxxx-xxx) Your password

You can access the usenet using any newsreader you like.

If you are still unable to log in, then please contact our support team. To enable us to provide you with a swift and helpful solution, we recommend copying the exact wording of the error message into your message.

The Usenet

No, USENEXT does not track what you do on the usenet. Because we are solely a reseller, it is technically impossible for us to track your Usenet activity. We only can measure the data volume used in a certain period of time.

The subjects that are being discussed on the Usenet are organized in so called newsgroups. Each newsgroup has its own subject and the users can exchange ideas on the respective subject. Therefore, newsgroups can be compared to subjects in Internet forums (so called threads). All registered users can participate in the discussions.

Just like a browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, etc.) is needed in order to access the Internet, the Usenet requires a so called newsreader. The newsreader allows you to find specific contents on the Usenet and to take part in discussions. Learn how to set up a newsreader in area "First steps" - "How do I set up my newsreader?".

The Usenet is a worldwide network that was developed parallel to the Internet. Its main focus is on the information exchange of a multitude of subjects, organized in so called newsgroups. Even though an Internet connection is necessary to access the Usenet, it is a stand-alone platform. Accessing the Usenet, you can find help for a variety of issues, take part in discussions or recall data.

USENEXT offers secure and unfiltered access to Usenet, a global discussion forum made up of over 200,000 newsgroups. Even the unexperienced Usenet user can download safely and quickly with USENEXT.

The download

The so called Free Download Mode is similar to a flatrate: unlimited downloads without download volume being deducted. Currently you can download at 2000 kbit/s using the free download mode.

If your newsreader does not allow switching between modes with the click of a button, you can choose to use the Free Download Mode by connecting to flat.usenext.de – or connect to high.usenext.de for full bandwith.

Highspeed:

Newsserver: high.usenext.de Port: 119/443 (Port 563 with SSL) Your username (avi-xxxxxxxxxxx-xxx) Your password

Flatrate (up to 2.000 kbit/s):

Newsserver: flat.usenext.de Port: 119/443 (Port 563 with SSL) Your username (avi-xxxxxxxxxxx-xxx) Your password

Troubleshooting

Please note that your computer and newsreader program do need unhindered access to ports 119 and 443 (as well as port 563 if you are using SSL encryption). It is possible that security software, firewalls or your router are blocking access to these ports. Please refer to the manual or documentation of your security software or router on how to free up these ports for your newsreader.

If you cannot download at full bandwidth please consider the following:

Are you downloading using the highspeed mode in your newsreader? If you are using the “flatrate” mode (Free Download Mode) you can download at a maximum of 2000 kbit/s. Switch back to the highspeed mode to download at full speed.

Can you access the full bandwidth of your internet connection? Sometimes you cannot access the full bandwidth of your Internet connection due to temporary overload. Please find out your actual bandwidth with the help of a speed test, e.g. with www.speedtest.net

Is your hardware working trouble-free? Problems like overheating, cable break, etc. can affect the download speed. Please make sure that all of your network devices are working trouble-free: – Unplug your router for a few minutes and restart it afterwards. – If you are using WiFi please make sure that your signal strength is at least “good”. – If you are connected to the Internet via LAN cable please make sure that the cable is not buckled or not lying next to magnetic resources (computer, speakers etc.). – Contact your Internet provider and have your connection checked.

Your contract

We’re very sorry to lose you as a customer!

The subscription can be terminated as follows: – By telephone – In writing by letter or email to [email protected] – Via online cancellation form

Please note our cancellation periods: – For packages with an unlimited term, cancellation is possible on a monthly basis; i.e. the cancellation will take effect on the next billing date if debited monthly. – For packages with a term of up to one month, the notice period is 7 days to the end of the contract term. – For annual packages and other contracts with a term of several months, the period of notice is 1 month to the end of the contract term. – Special termination right for free test periods: Free test periods can be terminated without a specification of reasons before expiration of the last day of the test period.

If we receive your cancellation after the expiry of the cancellation period, the contract will be extended to the next package. The cancellation will then become active on the date stated in the cancellation confirmation.

You can see all details about your contract, like start date, cancellation notice period or your current active package, in your member area: My Account -> My Contract

Here you can also check what package your current contract will be renewed into.

Your data volume

In order to purchase more download volume please log in to your member area and click on “Download volume recharge”.

For our customers with an annual package or other contract with a term of several months, you have the advantage to prepone the next months download volume. Unfortunately, this option does not exist for our customers who have chosen monthly billing.

Example: If your contract was completed on the 1st of the month, but you realize by the middle of the month that you need additional high speed data volume, you may easily draw data from the next month. You can repeat this process as many times as you wish until your entire data volume from the last month of the contract has been drawn. This will not change the terms of your package.

Once you have drawn the entire data volume from the last month of your contract, you can extend your contract under the above menu item or order another package. The term of the new package shall commence immediately.
